NEW YORK — The New York Jets traded defenseman Eric Staals to the Philadelphia Flyers for a second-round draft pick and a conditional third-round selection, the league announced Friday.
The Flyers acquired defenseman Chris VandeVelde in a trade from the New York Islanders on Thursday, along with a fourth and fifth-round picks.
The Flyers were hoping to get defenseman Brian Boyle in return.
Staals, 29, is playing in the final year of a three-year contract he signed in 2013-14.
He has 10 goals and 19 assists in 45 games this season.
